The Mayor of Kumasi, Samuel Pyne has appealed to parents to devote time to train their children on how to comport and conduct themselves in school and in public spaces.

He noted that what their children do at school and in society had a bearing on them as parents.

Addressing the media last Thursday after touring five schools selected within the Kumasi Metropolis in what the Ghana Education Service has christened “My First Day at school”, the Mayor noted that the display of bad behaviour nearly cost eight (8) female students at the Chiana SHS their education but for the amnesty granted by the President of the Republic.

“Please parents drum into your children that the internet never forgets and that whatever they do on social media or in society whether bad or good would follow them forever”, the Mayor sternly cautioned.

GOV’T COMMITMENT:
The Mayor noted that the government of President Akufo-Addo was committed to the churning out of good outcomes in education.

This, he noted accounts for the huge investments it has made in Education, adding that the presentation of items and learning materials during my first day at school events are all aimed at encouraging students to learn hard and record good outcomes for a better life in the future.

The Mayor stated that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) was committed to work continuously to improve academic work in schools and to invest in good infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.

“The commitment from me as Mayor and collectively as members of the KMA is to work out strategies that would make education attractive for all school going children and also to retain them them at good environments that encourage teaching and learning”, Mayor Pyne stated.

DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION:
On his part, Mr David Oppong,  Metropolitan Director of Education thanked the KMA and the Mayor for taking particular interest in education.
