Ghanaians Lacking The Ghana Card Are NDC Members – Ursula Owusu

Most of the people lamenting that they do not have a Ghana Card to attach their SIMs are, according to Minister of Communication Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who listened to their party when it advised them to boycott the Ghana Card.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Sefa Kayi, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful claimed that despite the party hierarchy ordering its members to boycott the Ghana Card, some of them secretly went out and bought the card.

She lamented the fact that some Ghanaians pay attention to the NDC when they talk.

“The NDC opposed and wanted to see the Ghana Card fail. They advised Ghanaians and their own countrymen to “Boycott Ghana Card,” the woman claimed.

The MPs issued a disclaimer and publicly denied it when word spread that their MPs had applied for the Ghana Card. Therefore, it was NDC policy to oppose the Ghana Card’s successful rollout, and I’m confident that some people did so and chose not to register, she said.

She adds hastily, “What is difficult is that they passed the back to go and register while your political party is saying don’t go and register.

She claimed that the current issues with SIM registration would not have arisen if every Ghanaian had gone out to register during the mass registration.

“We wouldn’t have had this numbers now saying they don’t have Ghana Cards if everyone had joined the mass registration at the time NIA commenced from region to region, constituency to constituency, district by district,” she said.

Recall that the NDC held a news conference in July 2018 and vowed to boycott the Ghana Card.

The party pleaded with Ghanaians and its supporters to postpone applying for the Ghana Card until their complaints about the eligibility requirements, which include a birth certificate, have been resolved.
