Ghana Police Erect Barriers At Spintex Just To Ask ‘Something From The Boys’ – A Plus Fumes

Published

on

Musician and activist Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus has fumed at the Ghana Police Service for extorting money from drivers at a barrier they mount at Spintex, in Accra.

According to him, that act causes lots of traffic and it wouldn’t be a problem if it was for a worthy cause like checking for arms in car boots.

See his full post on Facebook:

Ghana police will erect a barrier on the Spintex road, cause traffic from Coca-Cola roundabout to Manet junction only to tell drivers, “Your boys are here ooo.” And stupid questions like, “where are you from?” “Where are you going to.” “Something for the boys?” While the real robbers will be on our highways killing MPs and civilians. If you have caused that traffic because you are opening car boots and checking for arms etc that ok. But to use police uniform to block the road and beg for money for mosquito coil is pure nonsense!!! There are so many noble police officers in the service today. Those who don’t respect themselves must be removed. And those of you who take MoMo, take people to ATM machines to withdraw cash for you – a friends even said a police officer divided his bread into two and took half becausehe was driving without his licence. Be careful. I like the police who do snap checks at unsuspecting places. They are doing a great job. Not police who have been at one place for 15 years. If you erect a barrier on a particular road for 15 years and the same police stand there every other night which criminal will use that road? Won’t the criminals even make friends with the police? This country nankasa…. I don’t know how we think. And Hey!!! Don’t be there thinking 🤔; That Kwame A Plus, he is on Facebook talking about police, when we get him he will see.” Borga you can’t do foko. I’m telling you!!! Go and ask Dr. Nyankson. He asked Fianko, the station officer at cyber crime unit to invite me to CID headquarters a month ago, I told Fianko to tell him that me, Kwame A Plus, I said I won’t come!!! It has been over a month. He has not don’t anything and he cannot do anything!! I’m not one of those people you can intimidate. I am not above the law and I won’t be below the law. I know the laws of this country very very well!! When people talk about the problems in this country insted of solving the problem the criminals who cause the problems target those talking about the problem. Me diɛ forget it. You lie bad!!! I’m not afraid of you.All good police officer, (in fact there are many very good ones) should help us fight the bad ones like Dr Nyankson who are destroying the image of the service. You Dr Nyankson, until you leave the service, any day I write about bad policing I’ll use you as an example and you can’tdo anything. You are a PHD holder who is supposed to help reform the police service but you are worse than those who entered with JSS certificate.

I’m Upset That Muntaka has Defamed All Supreme Court Judges With His Bribery Claim – Fmr. Chief Justice

Published

on

Former Chief Justice of Ghana Sophia Akuffo has expressed her frustrations over bribery allegations made against a Supreme Court judge by Asawase legislator, Muntaka Mubarak.

Muntaka had claimed that a Supreme Court judge made an offer through a phone conversation to a member of the NDC caucus in Parliament to vote for former Speaker Mike Oquaye during the Speakership contest.

Speaking on the issue, Mrs Akufo told Joy FM, “I am upset at the very thought that, that kind of accusation will be made. I don’t like accusations like that. It is like throwing a bucket of dirty water at people and you were aiming at somebody but you just threw it and it dirties everybody.

“There are 17 people you have defamed in that causal manner but you are talking about only one person so there are 16 people who have been wrongly done by.”

Meanwhile Muntaka Mubarak has assured of his readiness to back his claim with evidence if need be.

NDC To Head To Supreme Court For Interpretation Over Bagbin’s Declaration Of NPP And Fomena MP As Majority Group

Published

on

Legal team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region is not happy that Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, declared the NPP caucus and Fomena MP as a “majority group” in Parliament, after the Fomena MP officially noticed the House he would align with the NPP to do business.

The legal brains of the party in Ashanti region say they are preparing to go to the Supreme Court for interpretation on whether the Speaker’s declaration is valid or not.

But they believe it is a mistake for the Speaker to have declared the NPP wing together with the independent Fomena MP, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, as majority in the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic.

Leading member of the legal team, Lawyer Evans Amankwaa is of the view that the Speaker of Parliament erred in such declaration.

Speaking on Akoma Fm’s Wonsom on January 16, Lawyer Amankwaa told host Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin that “the NDC will head to the Supreme Court for further and better interpretation to clear all doubts”.

He maintained that according to the 1992 Constitution, “declaring a majority in this hung parliament is a mistake”.

He cited Article 95 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, saying that “once there is parity in number of members from both caucuses it is clear in black and white in the constitution that the Fomena MP, who is now the 2nd Deputy Speaker cannot join the NPP side therefore there is no majority in parliament”.
