Family Of The Late Wa Chief Imam Reject Bawumia’s 20k Funeral Donation
The family of the late Chief Imam for Wa, the late Dr Suleman Mahama Haroon Bakuri has outrightly rejected a funeral donation of GHS 20,000 from the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as support towards the burial of the late Islamic cleric.
According to a spokesman for the family, inasmuch as the family realizes the good intentions behind the Vice President’s kind gesture, they cannot accept the donation because it is belated as the funeral rites have already been performed.
The family also raised other concerns as follows:
“Besides, the Vice President never showed up in person to mourn with the family when he paid a visit to the region on the 7th of September, 2020″.
“The money was only sent through the constituency Chairman of the NPP for Wa Central which is unethical.”
A release issued by the Head of the Limanyiri Family, Alhaji Issaka Mahama Bawmara, on Friday, September 11 said when the “embattled” Imam called on the presidency after he was prevented from performing his religious duties at the Central Mosque by the Upper West Region Minister, Hafiz Bin Salih, there was no response.
“Isn’t it ironic that neither the President nor the his vice found it worthy to attend any of his funeral celebrations nor visit the family to mourn with them even when they visited and toured the Region, yet find it expedient to send money through others to be donated to the family?”
“The family however wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the last minute kind gesture by the presidency and wish to state that it however came too late when the final funeral rites has been performed.”
It assured that continuous prayers will be said for the President, Vice President, ministers of state and all national leaders “to give them wisdom and guidance to continue to lead the nation on the path of progress, development and prosperity”.

NPP’s Best Score Is NDC’s Worst In Corruption Fight – Francis-Xavier Sosu
Lawmaker for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu has admonished President Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their failed fight against corruption for the past four years.
His comment comes after the President at a National Consultative Diaglogue on Small-Scale Mining indicated that he is determined to “enforce the laws on illegal mining no matter the subject, high or low,”; however, not based on hearsay.
But Mr Sosu in his critique, said “no one is saying that the President should convict persons based on hearsay or lack of evidence.” According to him, those words only “demonstrate the seemingly lack of interest by President Akufo Addo to crack the whip on corruption in his Administration.”
“Between 2017 and 2020, Ghana obtained an average score of 41.25 following scores of 40 for 2017, 41 for 2018, on the Corruption Perception Index as compared to an average score of 46 between 2013 and 2016. The 2020 report released by Transparency International saw the country score 43 points out of a possible 100, a two-point increase from 2019’s 41 points.
“This is compared to the 2016 CPI score of 43, 47 for 2015, 48 for 2014, 46 for 2013, and 45 for 2012. This shows that the NPP’s best score of 43 on the CPI is equivalent to the NDC’s worst score of 43,” the MP critiqued.
