Exam Leakage: Ghanaian Lawyers May Soon Be Subject of Ridicule – Kpemka

A former deputy attorney general, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka has said Ghanaian lawyers may soon be subjected to mockery if the issue of examination malpractice at the Ghana School of Law is not urgently addressed.

Some papers from Friday’s (23 September) Ghana School of Law entrance examinations were allegedly leaked.

This forced the Independent Examination Committee of the General Legal Council (GLC) to cancel the exams.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s news analysis and current affairs show – The Forum – on Saturday (24 September), Kpemka called on the GSL to hold an emergency meeting to address the issue.

“If we do not have a commission investigate this matter then when our lawyers go outside our country, they will be laughing stocks because they originate from a system where cheating is condoned.

“I expect a commission to go through the nitty-gritty of this matter to come out with findings that will bring people to account. We have people who cheated to their positions in our faculty of law and are perpetuating same.”

“The GSL must conduct an emergency meeting to address this issue because we cannot afford such unfortunate events to happen. They must show leadership.”

The former deputy attorney general wants the establishment of a robust system to fix the menace of exam malpractice in Ghana.

“There are people who will pay any amount to get law examination questions … this is why we need a robust system that dissuades such deviants.

“We have created a certain culture of examination malpractice that has compromised our systems from the JHS level through to the university level and we are paying the price,” he said.
