Ex-teammates of Atsu To Meet And Plan Appropriate Way To Honour Him – Agyemang Badu

Former Ghanaian national team player, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, has announced plans to meet with his fellow teammates to discuss ways to honor Christian Atsu, who recently passed away.

Atsu was among the thousands of people who lost their lives in the tragic earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6.

Agyemang-Badu spoke about his former colleague and friend in an interview with Citi Sports.

He described Atsu as a “blessing to Ghana football” and praised his contributions to the team during his time as a winger for the national team.

Agyemang-Badu emphasized that the team will need to collaborate with Atsu’s family to determine the appropriate way to honor their late teammate, stating that “we can’t just do it alone.”

“The footballers will have a meeting this week to see what we can do for our late brother and we can’t just do it alone, we need to collaborate with the family to tell us what we need to do and where we need to do certain things.”

The pair played together in three AFCON campaigns and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

During the One Week Observation ceremony held at the Adjiringano Atsro Turf, it was announced that Atsu’s final funeral rites will be held on Friday, March 17 at Ghana’s State House.

Christian Atsu Twasam‘s state funeral will be held on March 17, 2023.

The state assisted funeral will be held at the Forecourt of State House in Accra.

Family representatives of Christian Atsu made the announcement on Saturday the one week observation in memory of the late football star who died in Turkiye earthquake.

The body of the late Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu arrived in Ghana on February 19, 2023.

Rescuers found the dead body under the rubble days after the earthquake.

As expected, a number of high profile personalities of entertainment figures, sports icons including active and retired footballers and government officials graced the occasion.

According to reports, it was a visibly emotional atmosphere at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf in Accra earlier today, March 4, when the one week observation of the late Christian Atsu Twasam was held.

Among the number of entertainment personalities spotted at the ceremony were the CEO of EIB Network, Nathaniel Adisi Anokye popularly known as Bola Ray, Christabel Ekeh, Kwesi Arthur, Lydia Forson, Grace Ashley and Nigeria’s Patoranking among others.

Also, former Black Stars players including Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah were present to support the family in this devastating moments.

The event grounds was flooded with a sea of red and black colours signifying the state of hundreds of mourners who thronged the venue to commiserate with the family.

The Twasam family, of which the deceased belonged announced Friday, March 17 as the burial date for the late Hatayspor player. It will take place at the forecourt of the State House.

Even after two weeks of his death, a number of Ghanaians keep pouring in their tributes for the former Chelsea and New Castle player.
