Sam Nartey George, legislator for Ningo Prampram has described as an insult to to the hospitality of Ghanaians, the decision by the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana and diplomats of the European Union to attend an LGBT+ event.

“Over the past few days, issues about LGBTQI+ rights have been topical with the opening of an advocacy office in Accra attended by representatives of the European Union in Ghana as well as diplomats including the Australian High Commissioner, Ghana. I find the actions of these diplomats an insult to our hospitality as Ghanaians”, the Ghanaian lawmaker condemned on Facebook.

“It is an action that MUST be met with the gravest condemnation by the highest authorities of our land”, he said.

“Their actions endorsing an illegality per the laws of Ghana CANNOT be allowed to pass as business as usual”, Mr Nartey George said.

“Imagine the Ghanaian Ambassador to the US joining a lawful demonstration of North Korean citizens against the US embargo on arms sales to North Korea and what the reaction of the State Department would be.

“Or would these diplomats dare attend a similar function in the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia? Their actions can best be described as provocative and grossly irresponsible for diplomats of such standing”, he illustrated.

“The laws of Ghana and our traditions, culture and religions disavow homosexuality and criminalise same. Anyone supporting the advocacy for the committing of a criminal act is liable for criminal prosecution as well.

“Our government has a responsibility to speak up and speak loudly officially on these brazen actions of perversion that some may want to shove down our throats.

“We must reject, denounce, arrest and prosecute any person’s pursuing this illegal enterprise with the full rigours of the law.

“Any government that fails to take decisive action on these matters would be consumed by the righteous indignation of the people.

“Homosexuals MUST respect the rights of heterosexuals who want the preservation of our way of life.

“Take your perversion and let us hold dear our customs, traditions and beliefs”, he noted.
