Election 2020: “Consider Me A Son And I’ll Look Favourably At Your Region” — Mahama To Volta Chiefs

Published

on

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Volta Chiefs to consider him as a son, who must be supported to the top.

Mr Mahama made the appeal in response to demands on him by the Anlo Traditional Council to see to the development needs in Anlo should he emerge winner after December 7.

The former President who is seeking a comeback as the next President of the Republic said he needed the prayer and blessing of the Chiefs and promised not to take the loyalty and support of the people from the party’s stronghold for granted.

The Council among other things called for the construction of deplorable roads in the Shime areas, provision of water at an important Anlo town of Anyako, dredging of the Keta Lagoon to bring some respite to fisher folks and, the long-held dream of a port at Keta to reignite its former glory as a major trading town.

Earlier, chiefs from North Tongu, Central Tongu, and South Tongu Constituencies demanded from the next Mahama administration the needed development, which was largely about roads, health facilities, and potable water.

The NDC leader assured the Chiefs of his commitment to address the developmental challenges of the people of the region and asked that the people should not go back on their loyalty for the party over the years saying, “consider me as a son and as a son, I’ll look favourably at my region.”

He said his government did not take to “sweet promises and deception” to entice people as had been the case with the current administration citing the appointment of a director of the yet-to-exist Keta Port, which he called a “Sign Port” as an example.

Mr Mahama said the NDC government recognised the importance of a port at Keta and had begun processes for its development and said when given the power, the processes would be continued for Keta Port to come into fruition just as he would see to other projects that would benefit the people of the region.

The mother station of Despite Media, Peace 104.3 FM has pleaded with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reconsider their stance concerning their morning show, Kokrokoo.

In a statement signed by the managing director, Fada Dickson, the station noted that they’re not at loggerheads with the NDC and accept blame for whatever situation that led to their boycott.

“Since the inception of Peace FM on May 25, 1999, we have had a mutually beneficial relationship with all political parties, including the NDC”.

“However, in recent times, there has been a misunderstanding between us and the NDC in relation to the panelling of the discussion segment of the Kokrokoo show”.

“The management of Despite Media, acknowledges responsibility for whatever misunderstanding that has arisen between us and the NDC in recent times”.

“We, therefore, urge the NDC to let sleeping dogs lie and allow harmony to reign and return to the Kokrokoo show”.

“As agents and stakeholders of development, we may agree to disagree, all for the sake of Ghana, our motherland”, the statement addressed to NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia said.

Take A Cue From Otumfuo And Stop Endorsing Politicians – Lawyer Ampaw Tells Chiefs

Published

on

Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has urged chiefs to shy away from endorsing politicians and their parties but rather wish them well and sell their communal needs to them.

Speaking to Ghanaweb, Lawyer Ampaw referenced Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as a good example other chiefs can emulate.

“Welcome any political party, tell them their needs and then avoid endorsing them and then wish them all the best so that you’ll always be seen as a unifier…they should emulate Otumfuo. Otumfuo will never endorse any political party…rather advises them and wishes them well so every traditional leader should emulate Otumfuo by advising the political parties, tell them what their subject needs in their traditional area and then wish them well,” he said.
