Do Not Use Our Name To Legitimize Your Controversial Agyapa Deal – Togbe Afede Warns Government

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli state, and President of The National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV has issued a warning to the government not to rope in the name of the house to attempt to legitimize the infamous Agyapa deal.

Togbe who was reacting to various publications issued in his name and in the name of the chiefs of the volta region, which appeared to be condemning the opposition NDC in particular and its flagbearer, promptly denounced the said publications, describing them as fake.

Again, the Agbobomefia also condemned fake publications making round in the newspapers which suggested that the National House of Chiefs had condemned the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama for endorsing supposed “ethnocentric comments” made by MP for Bolga Central, Isaac Adongo and sharing same.

According to the respected traditional ruler, it is unfortunate that some unscrupulous elements are attempting to use his name to legitimize the widely condemned Agyapa Royalties deal.

“I in particular, I’m very much hurt by the attempt to use my name to grant legitimacy to a transaction that has been widely condemned for its secrecy and for the fact that the company involved [Agyapa] was incorporated in a tax haven. I do not see why desperation would lead anybody associated with that transaction to want to use the name of the innocent Togbe Afede XIV. I have never commented on this transaction and I have decided not to comment for good reasons,” he stated.
