The deadline for contributors to merge their existing SSNIT numbers with their National ID Card numbers has been extended to June 2022.

The merging of numbers was initially scheduled to end on 31st December 2021, however, SSNIT is now urging members who are yet to complete the process to do so before the end of June 2022.

According to a statement from SSNIT, members who are yet to register for their Ghana Cards are entreated to merge their SSNIT and NIA numbers before 30th June, 2022.

The statement announced that “From 1st July 2022, the Ghana Card will be the only identification recognized by the Trust”.

It explains that this complies with Regulation 7 (1) of the National Identity Register Regulations, 2012, L.I. 2111 which requires the use of the Ghana Card as identification for “transaction about individuals in respect of pensions” and “transactions that have social security implications”.

SSNIT said, “Employers are to note that they will be required to use only the NIA numbers of their workers to process Contribution Reports and make payments”.

SSNIT has warned that there will be no further extension of deadlines after the June 2022 deadline elapses.
