Ahead of the NDC’s parliamentary primaries in May, many of the party’s supporters have said they want to lead the party in their areas.

One of these aspirants is the daughter of the late David Lamptey, a prominent businessman who once helped finance the National Democratic Congress.

Meredith Naakai Lamptey-Addy, in a letter of intent seen, says she is contesting the NDC parliamentary primaries in the Klottey Korle constituency because she wants to help the people of the area.

She says she wants to build a new model of unity, jobs and connections for the people she represents, hence her decision to contest.

“Over the years, some of the biggest problems in the community have been the lack of jobs and networking opportunities.

If I get the job, my top priority will be to work with all the right people to make sure that everyone, especially young people, have access to good jobs.”

This will be done along with creating networking opportunities for self-development and capacity building,” she said.

The Klottey Korle primaries pits the daughter of late NDC financier David Lamptey against Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings.

In an interview with MyJoyOnline.com on her decision to become an MP, the businesswoman and politician stressed that her late father taught her the value of service and sacrifice as a child.

According to her, these qualities have become part of her guiding principles, hence her decision to use them to help the people of Klottey Korle.

The parliamentary candidate, who goes by the name Naakai, said her father did more than just help the NDC. He also helped a lot of people through his well-known acts of kindness and generosity.

Naakai says this is a big reason why she wants to be like her late father and has decided to become a source of hope for the poor, needy and marginalised in society.

She holds a degree from the University of Ghana and a certificate from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). She has worked as a human resources manager and in business administration.

The actor and artist will be opposed by Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, the current Member of Parliament for the area.

Zanetor is currently a member of Parliament’s Defence and Internal Affairs Committee and is said to be preparing to contest the upcoming primaries to retain her seat on the committee.

On Saturday 13 May 2023, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries to elect a new flagbearer and candidates for the 2024 elections.
