Covid Protocol Flouting ‘Pastor’ Was Made To Pay A Fine, Not Jailed – Police Replies Mahama

Director of public affairs at the Police Service, Supt. Mrs. Sheila Abayie-Buckman in a rebuttal to John Dramani Mahama has noted that the pastor who was convicted for flouting Covid-19 restrictions was only made to a pay a fine and not jailed as the former president insinuated.

According to her, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer’s claim is false as no pastor was jailed but only made to pay a fine which was footed by the Church of Pentecost.

“The pastors are not in jail. They were convicted by the court but they weren’t convicted to go and spend time in jail. They were asked to pay a fine but because they couldn’t pay, they were kept until sometime in July the Church of Pentecost volunteered to pay it,” she said.

She added, “after the Church of Pentecost offered to pay their fine, we checked with the prisons service in Volta region and found out that they have been released.”

Mr Mahama has been demanding the release of the pastor who he claimed was jailed for flouting Coronavirus protocols.
