The Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court will on May 9, 2022, fix a date to determine the suit filed against the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Francis Xavier Sosu per the writ filed wants the court to order the enforcement of his fundamental Human Rights to movement.

The MP is asking the court to enforce his rights and make an order for the enforcement of his right to free movement, protest, demonstration, and personal liberty among others under Article 14(1), 21(1), and 33 of the 1992 constitution.

The court presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Barbara N. Tetteh-Charway had on March 28 fixed today, April 27, to decide on the date for her decision.

But, the court did not sit and the parties together with the court clerk settled on May 9.

At the last court sitting, on March 28, the parties were directed to file their written submissions on or before April 15.

The court on that day also dismissed an interlocutory injunction filed by the MP against the IGP and his officers.

The court said, based on the nature of the substantive application, the motion for injunction was “inappropriate.”

Mr. Xavier Sosu was praying the court to stop the  IGP from any attempt to infringe on his rights.
