Bread Bakers Declare Strike Over The Increase In The Price Of Flour, Sugar And Others

Retailers of bread in the Nsawam district have been left stranded after bakers declared a strike action following the sharp rise in flour and other commodities.

The bakers claim the rise in the commodities, especially flour, is affecting their business hence the strike action.

The strike action is intended to help them meet and take a firm decision in increasing the prices of bread.

A retailer, Auntie Naana, speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, disclosed that several retailers in the area were unable to sell today because of the strike action.

She told host Kwabena Agyapong that the bakers are planning to increase the wholesale price.

She lamented that an increase in the wholesale price will affect the retail price and make it difficult for them to sell.

Auntie Naana said the bread business is gradually facing serious challenges due to the sharp rise in the prices of the items used for baking.

Retailers she disclosed make between Ghc50-Ghc60 as commission on good business days after selling bread worth more than Ghc200.
