Be Like Afari Gyan And Mount The Witness Box – Suhuyini To Jean Mensah

Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini has dared chairperson of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensah to follow the path of her predecessor, Afari Gyan and mount the witness box to clarify issues surrounding the 2020 polls.

This comes after lawyers for the 1st respondent in the ongoing election petition refused to allow EC Chair, Jean Mensah mount the witness box to be cross-examined.

Counsel for the petitioner, lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata argued that the EC chairperson showed readiness for cross-examination when she filed a witness statement and supporting affidavits in response to the petitioner.

However,  the first respondent also argues that the rules of the court, specifically Order 38 (4)(4) of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, C.I. 47 allowed the EC, which is the first respondent in the petition, not to adduce evidence.

Speaking to GhOne TV, Mr Suhuyini called on the EC boss to show accountability to the Ghanaian people.

“The argument of whether the EC boss should get into the box shouldn’t have happened. When Afari-Gyan’s last election was challenged, he went into the witness box to clear any doubt people may have about the EC,” he said.
