Ashanti Region Wants Bawumia As NPP Flagbearer – Chairman Wontumi

The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has revealed what led to his victory, stating that he retained his position as the party’s Regional Chair, after complying by an order given to him by his constituency executives to support Dr. Bawumia’s Presidential bid.

Speaking at Effiduase/Asokore constituency where Hon. Nana Ayew Afriyie serves as the Member of Parliament (MP), Chairman Wontumi indicated he can not go against what his people want, adding that Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia, the vice-President of the Republic of Ghana is the person his constituency executives have decided on as the next flagbearer of the party.

He said, ‘’allow the polling station executives and the coordinators to come to us because the party belongs to them. If the polling station executives and coordinators are saying they want Dr. Bawumia, who am I to object? I visited the vice-President and I told him that if I am allowed to go for what I want, I would be happy if my father succeeds President Akufo-Addo, but the polling station constituency executives did not mention my father’s name. What they told me was that if they allow me to retain my seat as the chairman, what they require of me is to support Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia’’.

Chairman Wontumi has openly declared his support for Dr. Bawumia to become the flagbearer of party to break the 8 come 2024.
