Ama Sey Withdraws As Independent Candidate After Caution From Akufo-Addo
The incumbent NPP MP for Akwatia, Mercy Ama Adu Gyamfi, popularly known as Ama Sey is reported to have finally rescinded her decision to run as an independent candidate after she was prevailed upon by President Akufo-Addo.
Ama Sey announced her intention to run independent after losing the Party’s parliamentary primaries with just four votes.
The MP could not wholeheartedly accept the results of the parliamentary primaries after she was denied a recount when it became obvious that she had lost by just 4 votes. She lost the elections to a young lawyer, Ernest Kumi who polled 227 against her 223.
Ama Sey, who felt cheated was gearing up to run independent, however her hopes were dashed when President Akufo-Addo categorically stated that he was not going to work with any party member who contests as independent.
