Former Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremateng has taken a sly dig at the government he has been part of for the better part of 6 years as he attempted to cut a saintly image for himself on the night when he launched his flagbearership ambition.

Mr. Kyeremateng announced his resignation from government last week after serving as Minister for Trade and Industry in the Akufo-Addo regime since 2017.

In an address to the NPP and the Ghanaian public last night, Mr. Kyeremateng admitted that President Akufo-Addo had laid a solid foundation for the growth of the country’s economy, but was also quick to add that he is of the conviction that certain things could have been done differently.

Many NPP faithfulls have deemed Alan’s statement as an attack on President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, under which he has served for the past 6 years.

Mr. Kyeremateng has also come under a barrage of criticism for describing the government he has been part of for 6 years as “NATO” – No Action, Talk Only.

Alan Cash, as he is popularly called has also received some criticism for claiming in his address that should he be elected President, he will undertake a massive downsizing of government by scrapping some ministries and merging others, a clear dig at the President.

The popular question being posed to Mr. Kyeremateng is “since when did he realize that the government he has been part of for 6 years ought to do things differently?”.

Mr. Kyeremateng also appears to have ruffled a few feathers by expressing the popular Akan proverb “Akyea nanso enbuyɛ”, to wit, “it’s crooked, not broken,” ostensibly to mean that the government he has been an active part of has disappointed Ghanaians and that he should be given the opportunity to redeem the Party’s image.

It is unclear at this point, Mr. Kyeremateng’s motives for attempting to make himself a saint while throwing dirt on the government he has been part of for 6 solid years, one thing is clear though, and that is how uninspiring his address was last night.
