Award-winning investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has described President Akufo-Addo’s promise to end illegal mining, popularly referred to as ‘galamsey’ as a scam.

According to the freelance journalist, President Akufo-Addo has not shown enough commitment in dealing with the phenomenon even though it was one of his major promises in opposition.

President Akufo-Addo, at the beginning of his tenure as President, promised to end the phenomenon of illegal mining even if it means putting his presidency on the line.

However, the canker still persists even though the President is almost at the end of his tenure as President.

Reacting to the issue on Joy FM’s Super Morning show, Manasseh Azure said, “I don’t think there has been any fight beyond the antics. Many of his promises have turned out to be a scam because once you decide to put your presidency on the line if you mean it, there are other things that you have to do,”

The renowned journalist also expressed his disappointment at the fact that the President has failed to adequately tackle many of his campaign promises including the issue of corruption, which was also a main ingredient of his 2016 campaign.
