Akufo Addo Will Rather Debate Akua Donkor, Kyiriabosom Than Mahama – Obiri Boahen

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has stated that President Akufo Addo will be ready to debate other aspiring presidential candidates other than former president John Dramani Mahama.

This comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) challenged the president to a one on one infrastructural debate ahead of the December polls.

“Today, I can see a scramble to grab even KVIPs and any infrastructure and tout it as an achievement. But it is easy to settle the issue of infrastructure. After all, the President says this election is going to be an election of track records, comparing his track record to my track record”.

We can settle it easily, lets have a debate between two of us, the two Presidents. Let Nana Akufo-Addo come and sit down, let me sit down and let’s debate our records. I am willing to present myself for a debate, any day, anytime, anywhere and we will settle the matter once and for all,” Mahama challenged.

In reaction on Hello FM, Obiri Boahen said Akufo Addo cannot lower the standards of the Presidency by debating someone who was massively rejected by Ghanaians.

According to him, it’s odd and disingenuous for an ex-president to call on a sitting President for a debate.

“Nana Addo don’t lower the standards, don’t lower it, don’t lower the bar. Don’t lower the position of the Presidency. Those who are aspiring like Kofi Akpalo, Kyiriabosom, Akua Donkor can come and ask for a debate because they are aspiring for a new role. But an ex-President is extremely odd for any enlightened society. The basis of such an individual who is an ex-President for me I will not welcome that decision. If you do that you are wrong. However, Mahama doesn’t see that it is odd. It’s like Messi telling Mbappe that in 2020 European games, we will get to know who plays well. Barcelona is no more in the game so in what circumstance can Messi and Mbappe or Neymar and Suarez will say they are drawing that comparison. The fact that he’s an ex-President…You don’t cheapen the position of the Presidency and Ghana deserves better,” he said.

He added, “you were not taken off power through a coup but through the ballot box. By now you should be writing your books.”
