President Akufo Addo on August 16, gave his 15th update on the measures taken to reduce the spread of Covid-19 while easing restrictions in phases.

The periodic update which has been mainly characterised with efforts by government and the health service to address and mitigate the impact of the novel coronavirus this time round had some subtle jabs to those who oppose the President.

The President insisted on closure of borders amidst rumours of reopening and also stated he is not giving freebies to Ghanaians as former president John Dramani Mahama suggested but critical help.

“We are not providing freebies, we are providing critical help to households, families and businesses, in the midst of this pandemic, because we care. It is my conviction that, in times of crises, it is the duty of a responsible and sensitive Government to protect the population, and provide relief,” he said.

President Akufo Addo further chided his critics and opposition by describing them as “Professional Jeremiahs”.

“The professional Jeremiahs and naysayers, who seek, cynically, to make a profitable industry out of spreading falsehoods, fear and panic, stoking divisive, ethnic sentiments, underestimate the resolve and the determination of Ghanaians to build a united, democratic, peaceful, prosperous, and happy Ghana. We will continue to work hard to prove them wrong,” he stated.
