Absentee Adwoa Safo To Be Referred To Privileges Committee – Majority Leader Hints

The behaviour of his fellow Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, may be submitted to Parliament’s Privileges Committee before or after the House adjourns or resumes from recess, according to Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Speaker Alban Bagbin had meant to refer her to the Privileges Committee last week Tuesday, March 29, but had to reschedule owing to prevailing circumstances, including the passage of the E-Levy, the Suame MP claimed on Joy News’ PM Express broadcast.

“According to my information, the Speaker was planning to make a statement in the House on it even last Tuesday, but I believe circumstances stopped him from doing so.” I’d like to believe that the Speaker will make the announcement by submitting her conduct to the Privileges Committee before the House adjourns tomorrow or next week when the House meets. “That’s the information I got from the Speaker,” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu explained.

He pointed out that the Dome-Kwabenya MP had just written to the Speaker in an attempt to prolong her leave of absence, but that her request had been denied.

“Well, she requested from the Speaker that she be allowed to be absent for another four weeks. I believe the four weeks are coming to a close on Friday. It was not approved. The Speaker informed me that he couldn’t do it because you have to be present to make a request, but this was made from outside, and even the first one, she didn’t make a request to the Speaker. “As a result, the Speaker said he wouldn’t accommodate that,” the government business leader added.

All attempts to bring Adwoa Safo back into the House, according to Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, have failed.

“It’s been a long process; we’ve had chats, and I believe there’s something going on that I don’t want to discuss.” Regardless of how unfortunate the circumstance is, a decision will have to be made one way or the other.

“Well, when it comes down to it, push has come to shove in this case, and when it comes down to it, some decision, some determination needs to be taken.” And so, like the Speaker, I agree that if that decision needs to be taken, it needs to be made,” he said.

He admitted that Adwoa Safo’s absence jeopardizes the Majority Caucus’ efforts in Parliament, particularly in light of the recent passage of the E-Levy law.

If she had been in the House, he claimed, the entire process would have been a breeze for the Majority Caucus.

“I must admit, we’ve been limping.” This stumbling block would have been overcome long ago if she had been present. We’ve been talking about her coming back, and she’s promised and then broken her word on several occasions, but I believe something is wrong. “The harder burden is figuring out how to move forward with it,” Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu added.

Adwoa Safo, the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, has been away from the House without the Speaker’s authorization for an extended period of time.

Many political commentators believe she has chosen to be absent for so long as a result of a falling out inside the ruling party.
